It's camping season and that makes it a good reminder to consider your reaction to fires and natural disasters. While a lot of people think of the mountain states and California when it comes to wildfires, recent wildfires including a big one in Minnesota that was unfortunately started by unattended campfire, should help you make sure that your family has an evacuation and safety plan in place for any type of natural disasters. An agency called CAL Fire says developing a well-thought-out Wildfire Action Plan is crucial for every household. A good tip: Your action plan should include a designated meeting point so you know who has evacuated. You should also have several escape routes known to everyone in your household, and have specific arrangements ready for the animals in your household. Here is some history: On October 8, 1871, the most devastating forest fire in
American history swept through northeast Wisconsin. It was called the Peshtigo Fire and many survivors describing the fast-moving fire as "like a tornado" in regard to how quickly it swept through.
