Spring migration will be underway soon across the US. In the northland, some cool things to keep an eye out for are the early arriving Bluebirds and Wood Ducks. Did you know that major weather events such as hurricanes can impact bird migration? Learn more about the timing of bird migrations here
Can you name those four feathered friends in the picture?
Are you planning to do a spring turkey hunt? Here are a couple of useful tips from Outdoor News:
Practice ahead of time with the shotgun and shot you plan to use.
You’ll want to find a shotgun that you’re comfortable shooting. Practice shooting so you can be confident when a bird approaches while you are hunting. It’s best to pattern your gun with shells (usually a 3- or 3 1/2-inch 4 or 5 shot) you intend on using so you know just what to expect when you pull the trigger.

A turkey's greatest defense is it's eyesight!  They can see the slightest movements and become very alert and will retreat if you move as they approach. Try to blend into your surroundings. Either by wearing camouflage clothing and sitting in the brush or against a tree to breakup your outline, or just wearing dark colors and sitting inside a ground blind can work fine. The most important thing is to limit your movement. If you find it hard to hold still, a ground blind can help conceal your movements.
Visit the 2025 Minnesota Deer and Turkey Classic at Canterbury Park in Shakopee MN March 14, 15 or 16 and Be one of the first 30 kids each day to stop by the National Wild Turkey Foundation (NWTF) booth during the show — and you will receive a box call!
Curious about using a box call for turkey hunting? Check out this video where turkey hunting expert Joel Nelson walks you through using one!
With the bright sunshine and warming temperatures, ice conditions can change daily, so use caution any time you step out on the ice. It's not too late to get in on some hardwater angling, just pack lightly and walk quietly. Minnesota fishing guide Dan Eigen said one thing he does during late ice season is to drill 20-30 holes and then sight fish for panfish while wearing a waterproof, insulated suit so he can lay on the ice and look down the holes to see the fish!
We want to see your pics from this hardwater season. Submit them here
