You're seeing them all over this time of year, and you've heard the word before, but what is a POLLINATOR?
A pollinator is any animal that moves pollen from one part of a flower to another plant. While the monarch butterfly, pictured here in the stages from caterpillar to metamorphous and flight, are one of the most recognizable butterflies, bees, moths, many birds and bats are all considered pollinators.
Pollen fertilizes the plant, and only fertilized plants make seeds or fruit. Without pollination, plants cannot reproduce, and our food supply and habitat for other wildlife is in jeopardy.
If you are interested in hunting pheasants for example, it's important to remember that insects are a crucial food source for many wildlife species.
Learn more about pollinators and activities you can take to help them out!

You'll often hear people call August the "dog days of summer", but in Minnesota - there is a major DOG event coming up called Game Fair that may just give new meaning to that old phrase!  If you are in the area - Game Fair is held in Ramsey, MN and will run two weekends: August 9-11 and 16-18.
If you go, stop by the Outdoor News booth - and also take the opportunity to visit with some of the conservation organizations that will have booths there. You can find out about various camps and ways you can get involved in things like habitat projects.
Here's a fun video from Game Fair where people talk about their dog's quirky habits
